Popoki + Tea is a pop-up cat cafe in Honolulu, Hawai‘i! At least once a month, you’re invited to enjoy our signature boba tea and play with adoptable cats! Our ultimate goal is to do this in our own retail space.
popoki (noun): Hawaiian for “cat”
Our pop-up events help pair cats with loving homes, spread awareness of our cat cafe, and of course, meet you!
Why does Hawai‘i need a cat cafe?
Cat cafes give people and cats a comfortable, social haven so they can find each other!
They’re a platform for cats who need loving homes—and there are thousands on O‘ahu that do. Cat cafes help alleviate space from animal rescues and fosters, so they can do more of their good work in our community.
Cat cafes are also cool, welcoming social spaces for people! This is true whether you’re looking to adopt your next feline companion, or just want to relax and play with cats without the commitment of pet ownership.
Socialization and adoption are both crucial components for the kitties!
The adoptable cats will be housed in a room separate from the main cafe and food prep areas. Guests will have the option of bringing their beverages and food in the room with them.
Our Founder/Owner, Liberty Peralta, grew up around all kinds of animals in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu. She was inspired to open a cat cafe in Honolulu after adopting her cat Mara. She’s visited cat cafes on the West Coast and loves how they’re a platform for good.
Liberty has over 10 years of experience in marketing and media in Hawai‘i, and is a proud graduate of Wai‘anae High School, Hawai‘i Pacific University and YWCA O‘ahu’s Launch My Business program. She also really loves cats and boba tea—can you tell?
